Insurance payout for a road accident without calling the traffic police

Kazakhstani drivers will be able to complete the necessary documents on a road traffic accident without involving the traffic police if no one is injured. This was announced on Thursday by Kanat Sadvakasov, head of the road traffic safety coordination department of the Traffic Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"A simplified procedure for documenting road traffic accidents is being introduced in the manner provided for by the European Accident Statement, under which drivers are given the right, if no one is injured in the accident and insurance policies are in place, to complete the necessary accident documents without involving the traffic police," Sadvakasov said at a round table on road safety.

In his opinion, applying the simplified accident documentation system will speed up the settlement of insured events, reduce the number of court proceedings, simplify the procedure for the injured party to obtain compensation and free up significant traffic police resources.

Under the proposed amendments to the draft law "On Road Traffic", there is no need to call the police to the accident scene if no one is injured, says Kanat Sadvakasov, head of the road traffic coordination and legal regulation department of the Traffic Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"A simplified procedure for documenting road traffic accidents is being introduced in the manner provided for by the European Accident Statement, under which drivers are given the right, if no one is injured in the accident and insurance policies are in place, to complete the necessary accident documents without involving the traffic police," Sadvakasov stated.

In his opinion, applying such a system will significantly speed up the settlement and review of insured events, reduce the number of court proceedings, simplify the procedure for the injured party to obtain compensation and free up significant traffic police resources.

As part of the draft law, the traffic police also propose reducing the amount of fines for traffic violations in order to encourage timely payment. This would apply only if the offender pays within one day and seven banking days from the date the fine is imposed. The amount may be reduced by 30 to 50 percent.

It should be recalled that in 2011 alone, speed cameras in Kazakhstan recorded about one hundred thousand traffic violations totalling more than 500 million tenge.
