Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is a standing body of the Association of Insurance Consumers. It oversees relations with full and associate members, from reviewing an application to advising on rights and obligations. Membership is open to organisations and specialists who share the Association's goals: protecting consumers' interests and fair practice in the insurance market.

Tasks of the committee

• Reviewing membership applications and preparing recommendations for the Board.
• Checking that the applicant shares the Association's goals and the principles of the Code of Ethics.
• Advising members on their rights, obligations and participation in committees.
• Maintaining the register of members.
• Considering breaches of the Code of Ethics and preparing proposals for the Board.

Goals of the committee

The committee wants the Association to include participants who genuinely share its values, and membership to be clear, with defined rights, obligations and ways of taking part. Membership gives no advantage in accreditation or in the review of consumer complaints.

Regulation on the committee

The committee works under its Regulation. Key provisions:

• the committee acts under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Association's charter and internal documents;
• applications are reviewed within 30 days; admission is decided by the Board on the committee's recommendation;
• a refusal is reasoned and communicated to the applicant in writing;
• meetings are held at least once a quarter; decisions are taken by a simple majority.

Structure of the committee

• Chair — organises the work and represents the committee before the Board.
• Members — representatives of the Association's members.
• Secretary — receives applications, keeps minutes and the register of members.

Reporting

The committee reports to the Association's Board. Admission and exclusion are decided by the Board on the committee's recommendation.
